About Us

The full name of the foundation is Yayasan Alam Lestari Masyarakat Nusantara Sejahtera, abbreviated as Almanustra. Almanustra is an official legal entity with the approval of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights of the Republic of Indonesia, No. AHU-0005670.AH.01.04 in 2023. Its history dates back to 2014 when it was known as INSAF or the Indonesian Sustainable and Advance Foundation, but it did not have official legal status at that time. It collaborated with a local university and engaged in projects funded by various international donors for the conservation of coastal and marine resources in Indonesia.

The stablishment of Almanustra is driven by a commitment to safeguard the environment for the betterment of society. It is motivated by concerns about the declining natural resources due to increasing pressures from both communities and industries, as well as the serious threat of climate change. Inadequate resource management could lead to difficulties for communities in the future.

Almanustra is open to national and international collaborations to carry out its mission by conducting studies and best practices in managing coastal and marine resources, sustainable fisheries management, coastal marine resource conservation, climate change mitigation and adaptation, including blue carbon preservation, and empowering coastal communities, including gender equality and social inclusion (GESI) in natural resource management.

Almanustra mainly operates in Eastern Indonesia, starting from North Sulawesi, Gorontalo, Central Sulawesi, West Sulawesi, Southeast Sulawesi, North Halmahera, Southeast Maluku, Seram Island, NTT (Kupang), Southwest Papua (Raja Ampat, Sorong), West Papua ( Manokwari), Papua (Merauke). Almanustra’s head office is located in Manado with subsidiary offices in Sorong and Kupang.

Vision: To achieve sustainability in coastal and fisheries resources, coupled with the well-being of
communities in Indonesia.

Mission: To develop innovative strategies for the preservation of sustainable coastal and fisheries
resources that involve community and fishermen participation in management, development, and
coastal-based economic empowerment.

Foundation Objectives:

• To assist the government and communities in the conservation of coastal and marine resources,
  including the development and management of conservation areas, fisheries management, stock
  assessments, and climate change mitigation and adaptation programs.
• To enhance the capacity, awareness, and participation of communities in the conservation of
  sustainable coastal and fisheries resources.
• To strive for the improvement of the well-being of coastal communities and fishermen through the
  development of sustainable economic programs.
