Sustainable Fisheris
Almanustra promotes sustainable fisheries in Indonesia. Sustainable fisheries are initiatives aimed at managing and harvesting fish and other aquatic resources in a way that ensures the long-term health of the ecosystem and availability of marine resources for both present and future generations. These initiatives typically involve measures to prevent overfishing, protect habitats, minimize bycatch, and advocate for responsible fishing practices. The goal is to achieve a balance between meeting human demand for marine resources and preserving aquatic environments, biodiversity, and the livelihoods of fishing communities. Sustainable fisheries initiatives often involve regulations, scientific research, and community engagement to attain sustainable objectives.

Vessel registration in Raja Ampat

In order to anticipate overfishing and to track the catch by fishermen, it is necessary to conduct fishing vessel registration through measurement activities and issuance of vessel certificates.

At the end of 2017, Almanustra personnel were involved in the registration activities of <5 GT vessels totaling 200 units in Raja Ampat, West Papua Province, resulting in Small Craft Registration Certificates (PAS Kecil) and Small Boat Safety Certificates (BPKP).” This activity was funded by the USAID Sea Project, which also collaborated with the Papua Christian University in Sorong.

The fishermen in Raja Ampat welcomed this activity enthusiastically. Besides receiving education on the importance of vessel registration, they were also able to obtain vessel ownership certificates.
